| Information | The main purpose of my photography was, until yesterday, amusement. In my last work, Boys will be Boys, a series of self portraits, that amusement may have been inspired by self reflection, past experiences, good and bad, or a candid shot of the moment but the purpose remained constant, to carefully stage moments lived or moments imagined with the intend to transform the memory or the dream into a happy one. It doesn’t elicit the same in everyone and the feedback is, entertaining.
As I experience life and nurture my work I hope to move away from staging my images into capturing moments and people in other terms. As I evolve and I hope my work accompanies the same places and steps I take. To predict where that will be tomorrow is not yet my purpose, just to enjoy the ride there.
I first conceive the images in my mind and carefully study a way to stage them. From that mental image I write a list of prompts, figures, colors and reasons that must be included to match the set to the one in my mind.
The intention is to draw the viewer to my world, my dream, not just my image. I do not sketch because unfortunately I cannot draw anything other than circles.
I am very disciplined in finishing and closing all the images immediately after shooting to avoid bringing extemporary feelings or elements to it. My work is mostly digital and natural light is my preference but is varies according to location.
All of my work is recent, dating up to five years. At the beginning it had a lot more exposure through internet photography sites were I posted recent works to receive feedback and tips from a pool of great photographers and mentors in several countries. | |
